Wandering Alice - that has quite a ring to it.

Sometimes by wandering, I suppose, we manage to find what we're looking for. So often (too often) we put pressure on ourselves to settle down (literally or proverbially) and we narrow our view of the world and each other and ourselves. But really, we're made to wander and explore and discover. And leaving a place only to come back to the same spot isn't the same as remaining there. Because by leaving and returning, we come back with a fresh perspective. The same...but different.

How wonderful, to travel through the world at such a wonderful pace. I have a dream to cycle to stay with friends in Ireland, not only because it would be kinder to the environment but because I love the idea of making the journey. I do love a slow journey one where you can really savour the places you travel through. This links in so beautifully with your last post x

Alice, I'm a forever fan of Great Canal Journeys of the World. Prunella Scales and Timothy West (the original presenters and veteran narrow boaters) say that travelling on the canals is like looking at the world from beneath, and Sheila Hancock and Gyles Brandreth (the new presenters) say it's so calm, such a unique view of the world they thought they knew. I love your poem and envy you the lifestyle.
